UF Athletic Department Under Scrutiny After Basketball Scandal & Football Struggles
The athletic department at the University of Florida (UF) is in the middle of a PR crisis on multiple fronts. Earlier this week, UF Athletic Director Scott Strickland gave Gators’ head football coach Billy Napier a vote of confidence, but the beleaguered coach and his team were embarrassed less than a week later, as they fell to the Texas Longhorns by a final score of 49-17.
On Friday, news reports surfaced that Todd Golden, head coach of the Gators men’s basketball team, is under investigation after accusations of stalking and sexual harassment of students. Prior to this weekend, Strickland was already receiving heavy amounts of criticism from alumni and other fans for the downfall of the football program. The university has yet to comment on the investigation of Golden. The only reply provided by UF thus far, came from a spokesperson who simply stated:
“In order to comply with federal law, the university cannot comment on or confirm any Title IX inquiries, complaints, or investigations.” – UF Spokesperson.
